And yet another question...

Raymond International bought several L&NE RS2s and many gons, hoppers and other rolling stock. According to the books on the L&NE, Raymond was building a railroad in the Nimba Mountains of Liberia. Folklore says the RS2s were on a ship which sunk in the Atlantic, but the L&NE book disputes that and says that the locomotives were sold to a cement plant in Mexico after the railroad in Liberia was built. How about the rolling stock? Did Raymond send the gons and hoppers to Liberia as well, or did they keep them closer to home? Does anyone know?

Speaking of Raymond International, is this company still in existance? Except for their association with buying some L&NE equipment in 1961, I have never heard of them and was wondering if they were/are a big construction outfit.

aymond bought cars and shipped them overseas also. Have shot some of the RS-2's after they came back to the states at the Alton & Southern engine facility in East St. Louis, IL. The cars were not worth sending home. Where the units ended up after their arrival back here is a subject for debate. Many feel they were cut for scrap by the Precision Loco people at Mt Vernon, IL...others feel they were sold south o' the Border. No photos have been found to verify either senario
