As part of the Conrail Historical Society's 2009 Convention in Philadelphia, PA we are hosting an excursion open to the public out of Philadelphia's historic 30th Street Station. "The Conrail Express" will be an all day round trip excursion with the Juniata Terminal E8s covering:

* Amtrak's Northeast Corridor to Perryville, MD
* Norfolk Southern's Port Road to Harrisburg, PA
* Norfolk Southern's Enola Yard
* Rockville Bridge
* Amtrak's Keystone Corridor back to Philadelphia

More detailed information can be found at the following link and there is a link there to purchase tickets if interested! You can also become a member of the society while purchasing your ticket as well. The Excursion is just ONE day worth of the convention we have every year for our society. There is much more we have planned for our convention.

The coaches will probably be Septa bombers given the fact that the train originates at 30 st. and its a weekend run. Of course I may be blowing smoke and the equipment could be Amtrak. Either way I didn't get a ticket :( so to those who did have fun and post pictures please!

Our consist is thus:
1Amtrak Cab car
4 Amtrak Coaches
1 Amtrak Cafe
3 Septa Comets
4 Private Cars (Warrior Ridge, Kitchi Gammi Club, Little Juniata Rapids, PRR 120)

IF not riding, how about some great pictures?

Otto- you are correct. We have sold out the train. 754 coach seats and 55 first class seats. We could have sold more too, but we couldn't add another Septa car as contracts were already signed. The Es are being shined up as we speak and the fall color is starting to turn down at Perryville, so I think it'll be a stellar trip. If all goes well, look for another trip in 18 to 24 months going somewhere else with some unusual equipment ;)
Russ

PS... ShadyJ, I can't recall what car you're in, but if you don't like the seat, there's always the cafe! Look on your ticket, if the car is A,B,C,D,or E, its and Amfleet. FG and H are Septa.

Also wanted to add, we are holding a special raffle onboard the train. $1 per ticket or $5 for 6 tickets. Winner and a guest get escorteð to the back platform of the 120 for approx 30 minutes while on the lower Port Road for a once in a lifetime opportunity. Proceeds benefit The CRHS and Vicki's Angel Walk (benefits children with cancer and children who are survivors)

A car... sweet!

Taking Amtrak #131 from NYP in, hoping she'll be on time. I've never travelled anywhere south of NYP on rails, so this is going to be quite the [long!] day. Should be a lot of fun!

Raffle prize sounds great, and a great cause!

Sounds like good times to be had!

I'd prefer to see an E-44 on the head end, but am still looking forward to this trip :-D . Will be a real heartbreak to see the Port Road denuded of catenary....

Yeah, $130 for SEPTA Comet cars. The same price as those who rode amfleet cars which had better restroom access, reclining seats, leg room, better seating configuration and quicker access to Harrisburg station. Sorry guys. BUT I JUST SPENT 8 hrs IN A SEPTA COMET CAR. NEVER AGAIN!

The persons managing the trip had EVERY right to advise people that they were using some Amtrak and the balance SEPTA.

I would have never paid $130.00 to ride in a middle seat of a comet car for 8 hours, While the management "attempted" to explain away the issues they failed to advise the passengers ahead of time they were assigned to commuter coaches. They knew what they were doing.

They owe a lot of people some money back on the tickets, It was like a three class trip..Private cars, Amtrak, they rest of the folks

They exercised their right to inform people that the consist would be five Amfleets and three SEPTA's. I was aware of that from a railfan message board several days before the trip. I hoped that I'd get an Amfleet. I was fortunate that I got an Amfleet. If I had been in a SEPTA coach I would have been slightly disappointed but would not have complained about it. CRHS needs to be chastized for two noreasters in two days too, correct? Grow up.
