Hi;
My mom was doing an old NYTimes Crossword puzzle (1990) and came across the clue "Railroad Track Support". The answer turns out to be "XTIE", which I found only by Googling "Railroad track support crossword". This does not appear to be a legitimate term for anything railroad, so I am wondering where they got it from?
I would have guessed Tie, Sleeper, Clip, Spike. But XTIE??? never would have figured it without Google.

Thanks. My brain is moving very slowly this evening. I think it's the high humidity up here in NJ, or maybe slow orders due to maintenance...ha ha.

This is typical for crossword puzzles. They use terms that never had major use in the "industry" they are taken from. I-BAR is a favorite structural support word that never appears in a steel manual from the last several decades.
