In German, Fahren means "to go". In Norwegian, fart means "motion". Along the Norwegian coast are a multitude of signs here and there saying "Sakte Fart",meaning "slow motion" or "go slow" - the nautical equivalent of a "slow board".

All over Germany, Austria and German parts of Switzerland there are signs saying "Guten Fahrt!!" which means have a good trip, but nonetheless funny for any English speaking person to see.

CN: Chicago National

Though it seemed a little more appropriate when E Dot was in charge.. now that Claude is running the show, it's starting to feel a little less American around the Canadian side...

In this case the name is not derived from a Germanic root but is an acronym for Ferrovie Autolinee Regionali Ticinesi (Regional Railways and Bus Routes in the Ticino). Someone, I believe George Drury, in his Railfan's Guide to Switzerland, commented that for all we know, ATSF may mean something funny in Italian.

United - Usually; Always, Late; Untied

Eastern - We Hate Eastern AirLines

America West - America Worst

Northwest -Northworst

US Airways - USScare

And the best for last

TAP (Transportes Aéreos Portugueses) - Take Another Plane
Just noticed this one. My favorite among the airlines is

Always
.Late
..In
...Takeoff
.... Always
..... Late
...... In
........Arrival

Don't laugh- they did that out west when building the trans-continental railroad, albeit temporary ones (wives). :-)
