This fall I was hoping to take a day off from work and try to photograph the Utica rail scene. Specifically, I have driven dozens of times but never seen a NYS&W train working Schuyler street, the brewery, the tracks by McCraith Beverages, etc. As a kid visiting the area in the 1980s, I would see the remaining pieces of the West Short which cut through Utica (my grandparents lived in North/East Utica) and would frequently go to the station but not see much else.

Is there a safe time to plan a day in Utica to see the NYS&W working whatever industries are left? Are there any scheduled trains? I am not interested in the CSX mainline, though perhaps seeing MA&N trains would be nice.

Thanks.

Thank you. I have read through all of the pages (once) but to parse through 69 pages to find their current activity in the Utica area (the thread mostly deals with the portion south of Utica) is time consuming.
