A bit of the back story on this first, Amtrak #2 on the 12th hit an unloaded sand truck before getting into the city. It didn't derail and only injury was a minor one to the engineer, and he was out of the hospital in a couple of hours. The Amtrak limped along to the station, but the damage was pretty bad to the 'pilot' on the front of the engine. They had a UP welding crew come out and cut some off, but once they got going, it hit another crossing, so they had to set it out. So my goal of the 13th was to get some pictures of the Amtrak locomotive, so off the to Amtrak station for me. It was a glum day, raining on and off but the sun would peek through so I figured it was worth a shot (and I need to get out of the house).

As I got to the Amtrak station, I noticed a UP stack train coming
into the station. For those of you not familiar with Houston and the
Terminal Sub, there are 2 sets of track, the passenger tracks and
the freight tracks that separate for about 2 miles (I'd say by about
1/2 apart), one going to the Amtrak station, and the other keeping a
straighter route. Though freight does go through the station
sometimes, mostly they stick to the freight tracks. UP 4614 was on
point. As I wasn't prepared for there to be a freight, I just didn't
get all the loco #'s.

This is a shot I took while walking back to the station. There seems
to be some metal inserts in-between the rail, and where they are
joined in the middle, it makes them look like the 3rd rail on a
model train.

From the Amtrak station I planned to make my way over toward
Englewood Yard by following some track. Along the way, I heard some
trains at Carr St Jct and stopped to watch them go by. The first
train was an empty UP coal train, with UP 6847 on point, then UP
7039 and it had UP 8031 as a DPU. The conductor gave me a weird look
when I stepped out of my car at the crossing, which made me
hesitate. There have been some problems around the area (and it's
not the greatest neighborhood).

While still at Carr St Jct the empty coal train, UP 6847 came to a
stop, and then UP 250 with UP 2506 passed going the other direction.

There were some Junior Trainmen riding on UP 250's cars.

More Junior Trainmen. These kids were on one car, then got off in-
between the 2 trains. They seemed like they didn't know what to do,
then when the flat car came by, the got on, and crossed over to the
other side of the train to get off.

This is the DPU to the empty coal train, after the UP 250 had passed.

After the trains had passed the crossing, I kept on my way towards
Englewood. I noticed that there was a train coming so I parked over
by Mesa X-over. This time, when I got out of my car, then engineer
gave me a nice wave. The NS 6601 is on point, and in running long
hood forward, with the UP 4367 also long hood forward.

NS 6601 UP 4367 This is the last shot I took. The weather seemed to
hold up. Let me know what you think about my post. Hope you like it.
