Further progress as of 10/31. NY&A loco 155 on the siding with a string of hoppers full of ballast. Inside EPCAL track laying vehicles visible by the entrance, grading work further west around the turn. The crossing is newly repaved, no sign of a crossing gate or crossbuck signs.

So that makes 155 the first locomotive to travel those rails since when? And does anyone know the last LIRR power to work the spur's last run, whenever that was? One of the Alco C420's, perhaps???

As of 11/4 the crossing signs are installed as well as RR painted on the roadway. The Grumman gate was open and the work train no longer on the siding along Connecticut Ave. I didn't have time to go looking for it, it could've been in the wooded part of EPCAL.

You want a lot of ballast beneath your ties in areas where sand is abundent. If the ties sink into the sand they'll rot very quickly.

Anybody know how old the rail they reused is? I guess it was found to be sound after 30 years of dormancy?
