A few questions about the Steamtown DLW yard...

1. What's the status of the track that goes north thru the city streets? What RR owns/operates it? Is it still used at all? The track on google satellite maps looks really bad.

2. When did the CNJ track get ripped out along the river in front of the CNJ freight station? Did anything use it after CNJ kia in 1972?

3. As I understand it the CNJ ended in front of the freigh house and the NYOW connected to it and continued north. Thing is I read that the NYOW was liquidated by bk court in 1957 and ceased operations. If that's the case what did the CNJ connect to after 1957?

4. When was the NYOW trackage removed north of Scanton?

Do you mean the tracks near the State Office Building? Those tracks were the Diamond Branch of the DL&W. The line paralleled the D&H mainline on a descending grade and eventually crossed the D&H in the vicinity of Olive Street, continuing over the Lackawanna River and crossing Providence Road ending at a paper recycling business called Diamond K. Diamond K was located on the site of the former Diamond Colliery. In the days of Conrail it was known as the Diamond Industrial Track and was eventually sold to the Pocono Northeast Railway. After the PNER went bankrupt, the track sat dormant. The bridge over the Lackawanna River near Providence Road was removed in the late 1990's as part of a flood control project. As part of the deal to acquire the former Laurel Line trackage, remnants of the Diamond IT were acquired to form a connection between the Delaware-Lackawanna's Carbondale line and the Pocono Main. The other trackage immediately near the Diamond branch was the former Erie Scranton line. It essentially ends on a bridge that crosses over Capouse Avenue. At one time the track snaked through Scranton and Dunmore. Not sure when the tracks near Cooper's Seafood and beyond to Dunmore were removed.

Probably ripped out by Conrail, but not sure.

The CNJ interchanged with the Erie Lackawanna at Taylor Yard until they ceased Pennsylvania Operations. The area before the freight house where the passenger station stood was used as an engine terminal of sorts. CNJ trains would drop their cars in Taylor and run light to Scranton.

4. When was the NYOW trackage removed north of Scanton?
Not sure, probably in the late 1950's as part of the liquidation. Several short sections in North Scranton and Dickson City were used by the D&H and the EL to service breakers or other industry. One section remains today and leads into the former Lackawanna County Recycling Center.

Pics on the blue comet etc web sites show cnj tracks gone in 74-75 so it was before CR. What did the cnj do in the later years running lite engines up to Scranton if the NYOW was gone and the cnj just stub ended?

Also it looks like the cnj south of taylor yard is still in use over the bridge. What rr is this?
