Hello,
I readthat the main line Port aux Basques-st John's has been torned down for a bike path. Does it mean that there is not one single kilometer of rail activity left on the island? No branch line left? no scenic railroad?
What happened to the depot and yard in St John's?
Thanks

Have a look at this link about what's left of the Newfoundland Railway.

Scroll Down several posts there and you will find info on my trip to Newfoundland last August.

Labrador is part of the province of "Newfoundland and Labrador" and still has rail service provided by the Quebec North Shore & Labrador Railway which runs north from Sept Iles, Quebec.

Here is an active Newfoundland Railroad group on Yahoo:

I'm from Newfoundland and my dad worked for the RR there....then one day our wonderful govts announced that it would be shut down.....but in some ways can't blame them....it was losing money and of course tax payers subsidized highways were a part of that equation.
