Just when Pan Am was getting ready to remove the rail on the Northern Line between Horseshoe Pond and Penacook the owner of Scenic RailRiders contacted Pan Am and was able to work out a 5 year lease agreement to operate rail bike tours from Horse Shoe Pond Lane up to Commercial Street in Boscawen, NH. Clearly this had been in the planning stages for while, because they also had to get approval to build a 25-car parking lot off of Sewalls Falls Rd. (which is the base of operations) from the city of Concord. Tours started last Friday, see their website for more details scenicrailriders.com

Not quite Horseshoe Pond Road, they are running about 1.5 to 2 miles south of the Sewalls Falls Road Crossing. The owner and his family did a great job clearing out their portion of the Northern filled with years of no maintenance, weeds, and downed trees across the tracks. There's no tracks across the Sewalls Falls Road Crossing, so they have to 'walk' the bikes across the pavement. The crossing was not replaced when the area on Sewalls Falls road was rebuilt and the bridge was replaced there a few years ago. The bikes are fun to ride, easy to ride.. I wish them success !
