Rail Abandonments Across the US

Came a cross this page and figured I would post it. Not sure how offical it is but I'm surprised to see how many lines are still being closed. http://www.trainweather.com/aban2003.html
Can anyone else add to this?

I believe that some of those abandoned line are now shortlines. Correct me If I am wrong.

Generally when a line is filed for abandonment, another operator may bid to purchase and operate it. I belive that the percentage of abandonments that went to other operators is fairly small compared to the peak total of line mileage.
