What happen guys,

Recently went on a few subway rides with my scanner and have noticed something weird. I will be standing on a platform in lets say the Penn Station waiting for the 1,2, or 3 Train and will not reciece a thing on the IND, BMT, or IRT Channels. But, the second I step onto a train, the scanner starts recieving everything..... I thought the leaky coax system was throught the tunnels and would able to be heard system wide? My only thought is that they have pass-through RF Amplifiers on the train that strenght the signal. Any help would be great and thank you for all the info....

I am not aware of any amplifiers on trains. In theory I would think you would receive better while standing on the platforms.
