In the early days (1968-1969), some R40s were mixed in with R32/R38 and older SMEE equipment. But soon afterwards slanted cars were segregated for safety reasons.
Since my friend continues to chain smoke nonstop, she is probably an Alco.
All SMEE cars ranging between and including contracts R10-R42 are technically compatible with one another.
