Railroad announces intent to reopen old line between Sprague and Willimantic

A long-unused stretch of rail from Versailles to Willimantic is expected to reopen for freight service later this year, the Providence and Worcester Railroad Co. said.

The reactivation of the rail line, which runs from Willimantic to Versailles, hasn't been used in 20 years. It is expected to create a network with other regional rail services, and could mean a modest boon to the local economy, Sprague First Selectman Dennison Allen said.
