How much of the old PRR line from Columbus,OH to Sandusky is intact? If it is, who uses it?
Still very much intact and in use by Norfork Southern. PRR sold this line to the N&W in 1964 to allow the latter to tie the "traditional N&W to the NKP/Wabash system it had aquired last year. It always has heavy traffice, especially coal moving from the mountains to Lake Erie docks.
With the Conrail merger, this became one of the busier NS lines in the country. NS recently double-tracked a sizable chunk of line north of Columbus to accommodate merger traffic, but any plans to add more track has probably been nixed by the general traffic reduction and the decline of "boat coal" traffic as Powder River coal gradually takes over lake-accessible power plants.
