PRR GG1 and caboose moved from Harrisburg station

Planned renovations necessitated removing GG1 4859 and caboose 980016 from their display location in the station. They are now on a siding west of State Street bridge. They reportedly will be covered to protect them from the elements.

Too bad they couldn't move them to the Strasburg RR for the time being. Hope they don't become a 'canvas' for the local 'misguided youngsters'.

You don't think the kids will graffiti them , do you? That would be almost as bad as what the PC did to the Gs, painting them solid black.

Probably more along the line of the Conrail Bi-centennial GG1. Now there was some SERIOUS ugly.

Did the GG1 and the caboose ever get covered or wrapped?
If not, seems like the tagging crew would have paid a visit
by now...

The Public Affairs Dept. went ballistic when they saw that paint job. Nothing was cleared with System before it was done.

I parked in the garage beside the GG1 and caboose today, and they were both wrapped with a sturdy black tarp.

Oh c'mon, it was no worse than the attempts by many other railroads and all in good spirit. Plus, it made a great prototype for the IHC model which still sits proudly on my display shelf ( and gets to run once in a while).

Ah, but it didn't have prior approval from Philadelphia. And they used enough different ideas to equip a few more locomotives.
