I did a search for 'doodlebug', but reached no goals.

I'm looking for information on any doodlebugs PRR stenciled for themselves.

The shortline I used to work for in NYS, which interchanged with the PRR Buffalo Line, used to have such a doodlebug, and I'm trying to get more information on it.

The pictures I have indicate a potential number 1099, but I'm not nearly certain on that number.

Any info on the number, and history, including final disposition, would be greatly appreciated.

I presume you're talking about the former PRR unit on the A&A? I believe the number was 4099 and ended up in New Jersey. We had a discussion on this unit in a thread on a previous iteration of this site. I'll do some checking and see if I can come up with it. The car was owned at one time by a gentleman named Ray Kennedy. My father, brother and I toured the car in the late 1960's/early 1970's during a visit to the A&A.

I believe I've found the information you were looking for. I was completely wrong regarding the units number-it is 4666. From what I could find, there are two preserved former PRR Gas-Electrics (AKA "Doodlebugs")-the #4662 at the Wilmington and Western in Delaware and the #4666, the unit that was at one time on the A&A, at the Black River & Western in New Jersey. Unfortunately the BR&W website has no information on the car but I did find these:

The most useful link is this one, which includes mention of the car being at the A&A:

Some photos, listed as being posted in 2003:

Hope this helps!

Here's an earlier Webshots photo of 4666 at Ringoes.
It was getting rebuilt for a time, but now every time I see it it looks more deteriorated than the previous time. This is the most recent photo that I found.

The best authority on pre-RDC motor cars is Edmund Keilty's 1982 book Doodlebufg Country, which attempted to list all cars operated by the Class I lines, and has maps identifying the lines upon which they operated.
It's notlikely to be found in too many libraries, but you might try an inter-library loan to locate a copy.
