As part of Phase I of the improvements to Route 981 in central Westmoreland County, PA, the former PRR trestle carrying an unknown branch line over the road will be removed. The location is near Carpentertown (north of Mt. Pleasant), immediately north of the PA Turnpike, and at the following link in Google Maps:

I'm not terribly familiar with the PRR in this area, but from old aerial photos, it looks like this branch was built in the 1940s or 1950s to serve a mine southeast of Carpentertown and northeast of Mt. Pleasant.

Construction is not anticipated to begin until 2021, so there's time to document this structure before it disappears.
