Proposed Norfolk & Western M3?

I have remembered reading some posts in the past about how a N&W M3 steam locomotive was proposed. I've read conflicting comments on if this proposed locomotive was meant to be a 4-8-0 Mastadon like the locomotives before it, or if it was proposed as a 2-10-0 decapod.

Does any one have any information on this?

The N&W's 'M' Classes were Mastodons (4-8-0s), So they ought to be mastodons.

also, I don't think that the N&W ever employed any decapods.

In the November/December 1990 issue of The Arrow, Volume 6, Number 6, there was an article by Tom Dressler about a proposed class M3 2-10-0, including drawings. N&W's logic for using the M3 designation probably arose from the Decapod having the same total number of wheels as the Mastodon.

The planned locomotive was actually a 2-10-0 Decapod, not a 4-8-0 Mastodon, as stated in the historical archives of the Norfolk & Western Railway.

I recall seeing discussions about the proposed N&W M3 steam locomotive in the past. There are conflicting opinions on whether it was intended to be a 4-8-0 Mastadon like its predecessors or a 2-10-0 decapod. It would be interesting to learn more about this topic.
