Outside of point #1 here you're probably correct. His stake in the company hasn't gone anywhere. But, his ability to make decisions on railroad operations has been removed.

Keeping in mind his stake in the company, I don't know what percentage he owns. If he has a large enough stake, and the other owners, primarily Mellon still value his opinion, he may still make decisions. He may have just retired from day-to-day operations. In director meetings, he could still express his views on how corporate funds are spent, and the general misdirection of the company.
