I've stayed in both the upper and lower 1 bedroom cabins on a Chateau car. I'll be in one in a Manor car on an upcoming trip. Just wondering if there's any difference in size or layout from the lower 1 bedroom on a Chateau car? There are only 4 in a Manor car and 8 in a Chateau car. I'm hoping it might be a tad bigger. Thanks.

Those in Manor Cars are “Standard” Roomettes. Slightly larger and with a cut-out bed (wider at the head than the foot)…..you can lower the bed without having to step-out into the corridor.

The Chateau Cars have “Duplex” Roomettes which are slightly smaller. In the Lower Duplex, the bed slides under the floor of the Upper. In the Upper, it lowers from the wall.

CP sold the Duplex at a lower rate than the Standard Roomette but VIA sells them now as Cabins for one……all at the same price.

Scroll down here for a Daytime/Nighttime view of a Duplex here:

And a view of a Standard here (This is in a CN “Green” series sleeper but similar to a Manor)

Thanks for clarifying that for me. I can't wait for the trip so I can see the differences with my own eyes. I'm actually surprised the VIA Rail website does not show a 360 degree view of a Manor car on its Fleet page. It shows a diagram of both Chateau and Manor cars, but only shows a Chateau car for the 360* View. I think there are quite a few differences between the two. It would be worth showing both for a comparison.

I'd take a Manor series "Cabin for One" (roomette) any day over a Chateau "Cabin for One" (Duplex Roomette), as the Manor series roomette just gives more of a "spacious feel."
