This is in the Manuwatu gorge , near where i grew up .it is a train of fresh milk , which they will have to rescue and divert to get it to the milk factory before it goes off . a diversion down through Wellington will probably add 4 - 6 hours to the journey time to the 2 daily milk trains . alternatively they could road bridge the milk , there is another loading point near palmerston north .
As one lady comments , the railway got the better side of the gorge , it rarely has slips . the road side in contrast , is continually slipping , many millions has been poured into trying to stabilise it .
