Len,
If my information is still right, the Lehigh line is channel 1 (160.800), the Reading line is channel 2 (161.070), the yard drill jobs are channel 3 (160.860), and that then makes the hump channel 4... 160.980. I don't expect that you'll pick up much traffic between the hump crew and hump operator, only when starting out, or if something went wrong.
I trained as a conductor trainee (one of the many, apparently) on the hump for a while. I found myself on the other end of the railfanning
. I can't really say anything was weirder than my second day on the hump, cutting the cars, and the Allentown Train Meet was that weekend....railfans galore! I felt like a minor celebrity, hehe
.
About railfanning the area. I still love the canal path...both for being able to see the trains, and just for the exercise. Have to go in April though, before the leaves grow back in like a few of you said.
Also, for those more adventerous types..."One Bullet Bob" retired and hasn't been replaced (the NS Police officer, a really great guy
). I'm not sure if there are any CP Police still in the area, so you might be dealing with local police now.
Alright, back to building routes...
