How about the rumor that CSX is going to replace NY & A within 2 years ?
They don't care about the LI traffic, they want to get accross the Hudson Rv. &
will invest serious $ on Bayridge line.

Why is this the case? Would not working more closely together benefit both? With their PHL & CSS experience, did NYA's parent, Anacostia, ever show interest in adding NYNJ Rail (NYCHRR) to their network?

Considering their budget woes, would MTA ever consider selling the Bay Ridge branch? From access/conpetition point of view and recent purchase of NYNJ Rail, the PA NY/NJ would seem the better candidate over CSX.

NYNJ is owned by the Port Authority. They seem to be putting money into the property. If that barge to rail transfer is completed that could totally avoid truck traffic with 2 of the most efficient transportation modes. Remember Port authority likes the truck traffic for revenue at the tolls. You could probably ship most of the city's garbage out that way if like Fresh Kills it could transfered to the garbage scows like up until 2001.

If anything, csx might pull further out of ny via selling off oak point and only making the haul up the hudson. nya could step in there, or p&w could make a bid for it...

How about the rumor the CURES group is going to get a grant to purchase the Fremont Line and Fresh Pond Yard and discontinue all train service?

How about the rumor a group of HO modelers will replace NYA within two years?

How about the rumor CSX has been crossing the Hudson at Castleton for years?

How about the rumor..............................

Indeed. 99% of rumors never happen. I don't see the status quo changing much anytime soon, though Port Authority running NYNJ seems to have already made for many changes there (the new track north of first ave to the new pier siding is the best example).

Any one take pics of the new track going to the pier?

Took photos of the pier work from the waterside on the last Working Harbor boat tour.

Of interest was the guide on that tour was from the NYC EDC (they are the ones funding the new pier and track work off First Avenue) She spoke of the Mayors new initiative to revitalize the Bush Terminal area (and the City Pier work as a first step in this) Also spoke how EDC is moving the NYPD impound yards along the waterfront to try and get more commercial developement. (however this is the same group that has not granted an opertion lease to the newest float yard and float bridges in the old Bayridge Yard) There are other forces in City Hall working to get Industry City rezoned for luxury Condos, So time will tell.

EDC is getting new customers to move in, but they are focusing on waterborne freight movements, Aggregates, cement, import beverages (most of your imported beer comes in by container ship and then distributed by trucks throughout the tri-state area) and the scrap dealer along Newtown Creek will be opening another transfer yard near Industry City soon. Not much mentioned about rail, (just that it would be nice)

Whatever happens, there will be more public access to the area, so we can witness what happens a bit closer. :-D

Recently, I've moved to Brooklyn, and the interchange tracks between Fourth and Fifth Avenues have had cuts of cars on it, and they do vary in type day to most days (mostly covered hoppers and gondolas). So something railroady is going on down there.

Additional input on the CSX on the Bayridge line ...
Consider the recent deal between NS & Pan Am ... it's going to hurt CSX.
Although the main reason I've heard for it was East-West traffic in & out of Boston, vs. North-Sout traffic.
Anyhow expect CSX to do something to strenghten their position. Will it have to do with Bayridge & floats to NJ,
i.e. there is an lot of freight cars coming into NJ that then go north or go to trucks ...
... don't know, i.e. I'm not making any rumors.

This AM there were plug door boxcars and/or reefers (bad viewing angle) on the interchange track.

Does the Brooklyn Terminal Market still get rail service?

Passed by there today on my way to get on to Leif Ericcson Dr. The yard was empty, as was the team track along the north side of the main yard. Not a soul to be seen, or any rolling stock of any type. Too bad. The answer to a lot of traffic congestion problems is there, in 65 St. Yard.

Interchange tracks a few blocks east, near 4th Avenue have had a steady bit of traffic. Not daily, but at least a few times per week. Gondolas, Boxcars and a tank car or two. Cars might linger for a few days, but they seem to get cycled through.

Does NY&A make regular trips or are they "as needed" like NYNJ is?
