From VRE'S Facebook Page:

Just to provide a little background, our current locomotive maintenance contractor has maintained our fleet for the past several years. The only difference between several years ago and now is the heat. This has been one of the hottest summers on record in quite some time. As a result of the heat, and our already aging equipment, we've had more mechanical delays than usual.

While this does not excuse the delays, we hope it helps to explain them.

Keolis partnered with the same company Amtrak used to subcontract to maintain our trains. So, Keolis did not just take over maintence of the fleet.

From Today's Chat:
We are bringing in outside mechanical personnel to assist in the maintenance of the equipment. The first arrived today and more will arrive by the end of the week. Next Monday you will see a major change.
