I just wonder how much money CSX (and other Class 1's) would lose by becoming more fluid, driving away customers to short lines and worse yet, trucks. I understand CN went from a money-losing outfit to a strong Canadian Class 1. I hope careful thought is put into such ideas before implementing. I live near Rochester NY, and I can only speak from what I see as a railfan, I am not a railroad employee. Around here, it seems like the CSX main already is a bridge across NY, without a lot of on-line customers. It's like a cross-state freeway with only a few exits. Many customers already have changed from rail service to trucks. There could be money to be had from more customers. But I can understand that CSX has to ask themselves if the monetary reward is worth the effort. It seems here in NY, that there are only a few short lines that already interchange w/ CSX.

A few short lines do have trouble with CSX not picking cars up on time as well. Finger Lakes had this problum becuse Cars would sit in Lyons for days on the West leg of the wye befor CSX picked them up cars were also late in arrival to coustomers that were reseveing the cars. One call I guessed fixed the problum. It seems that CSX and NS drop about the same number of cars off while the largest number of out bounds go on NS the rest go on CSX.

CN has been droping some lines to Shortlines most of these lines are in Saskatchewan and are layed with 60Lb rail.

Cowford,
So the idea is that by letting the small single car customers either put up with their current service levels or make other arrangements. Then the Railroad can better support and serve the larger customers which actually make it worth sending a crew to. I can understand that. I believe something needs to be done to get the TM's and managers to concern themselves with that customer service issue. Not just pinch the pennys. With better more reliable service, a number of these customers desire to increase capacity and car loads. I have decided at this point tho, to bid an assignment at a larger terminal for now untill things settle down. Here's hoping for a brighter new year on CSX.

I liked the original CSX Paint scheme better that this new dull looking gray paint scheme, it kinda stinks for these engines.........

I can sum it up in one word, MONEY. The YN2 or "Bright Future" scheme costs more money to apply than the YN3 or "Dark Future" as there is more complex masking which is time consuming and four colors on YN2 versus simpler masking and three colors on YN3.
