This press release says Eurotunnel has taken over one of the British freight companies GBRF. This company was started up by one of the passenger companies and has been quite successful.

This means that Eurotunnel can now control freight in Britain and also in France with its other freight company Europorte 2. I am surprised it has taken so long to get into the freight business, as now they can drum up business. At present freight trains through the tunnel are far below the number hoped for at the beginning.
GBRf is a profitable business employing 299 people and generating revenues of £56 million in 2009. The company is present in all rail freight markets: intermodal, bulk, infrastructure, etc. Its customer list is broad, diverse and international (Bombardier, British Gypsum, EDF Energy, DRAX, etc). Service quality, flexibility and customer focus are values common to both GBRf and Europorte.
