ROW telephone boxes

I've seen black & white photos of NYC telephone boxes along the row of the old Putnam and Harlem Divisions. I'm sure you've seen them, the peaked roof, three color boxes mounted on some sort of post. Well, here's my question. What were the colors on those boxes? I can't tell from the b&w photos and I don't recall seeing any color photos in any of my NYC books.
