I remember seeing a wreck in Allegany in the 1970's of a freight, just west of the River Road crossing.I seem to have a vague memory of hearing that part of the freight was beer , which was scattered around the crash site.Anyone remember this or what caused the wreck ?

John, I'm afraid I can't help you with this, and I certainly don't want to hijack your thread, but I do recall an EL wreck in Kennedy (East of Jamestown), NY in the late 1960's involving Canadian whiskey.

A westbound freight out of Buffalo struck a snowplow that had become stuck on a crossing in Kennedy. Some of the consist included trailer flats loaded with the aforementioned Canadian whiskey. The aluminum trailers practically disintegrated as the derailed flats they were on bounced on the right-of-way after derailing. Much of the cargo, including cases of whiskey, was strewn along the ROW.

Never in my life have I seen so many New York State troopers in one place as they guarded the wreck while it was cleaned up.
