in this months TRAINS magazine, there is an article about rails. There is new rail, 141 lb, that a lot of freight RR's have been putting in on their RR's like, UP and CSX.

My question:

The rail between Holden and Mansfield is 131 lb, will Amtrak convert this section to 141 lb any time soon, or will they just wait until the track that is there now, needs to be replaced?

2) The new rails that Amtrak put on curves between Canton Junction and Mansfield, is that rail 141 lb or still the 131 lb?

A railroad will usualy use the heavies rail it can purchase, as long as it fits in current hardware.
if the New 141 Lbs rail has same foot as 132 lbs rail they will use the 141.
but if the foot(base) is different their not gone replace all hardware or ties incase of cement ties.

Are those figures per foot or yard or what?
