Does CSX still have SD-45's roaming their system?

No regular SD45's, but there are 2 SD45-2's---#8954 and #8974.

Actually #8954 is the last true 20 cylinder SD45-2 on the CSX roster. CSX #8974 was repowered with a 16-645 but was not renumbered and has been reclassed as SD40-2.

8974 was retired a couple months ago.

8974 is still active as already pointed out by Bryan with a 16-645 now. Only one other 20 cylinder SD45-2 remains. CSX HLS1 (ex 8969) used for load testing at Huntington. Retired 8973 (16 cylinder) is retained for training in Atlanta. 4 other 16 cylinder SD45-2's are active as well 2422, 2423, 8886 and 8889.

PS CSX retired all SD45's by early 1990

I believe the only straight SD45s on CSX were ex-SAL/SCL units last numbered in the 8920s. Some of them went to VMV who leased them out until they were junk - at least one was rebuilt as an SD40-2m for Southern Pacific about 1994.

The SD45's were former SBD/SCL with 10 units originally ACL. Most of them went to VMV with resales to KCS, SP, MRL, and MKCX.

All of CSX's SD45's were Ex.Seaboard, as Chessie had no interest in the 3600 hp giants, preferring the SD40 series (Legend has it, though, that the C&O was thinking of purchasing some). The oldest units were of ACL(!) heritage, with the youngest being the SCL's last batch. Clinchfield's was a ragtag assortment of units from the SCL. As far as I know, the L&N never owned any SD45's or SD45 variants. All the units were off the roster at the time of the Conrail Split-Up.

12 units were painted into early CSX liveries out of a fleet of 44 units. 10 units were in Seaboard System Livery, 14 in SCL original livery, and 3 in CRR/SCL "patch-jobs." All the CSX painted locomotives were in early liveries, one was in the original CSX colors, 3 more were in CSX's original livery, but they were in the variant that didn't have the words "transportation" on the long hood, 4 were in the simplified version of the original colors, and 2 were in the "stealth" scheme. The stealth is the last livery that any straight (non-dash 2) SD45's wore.

Aristo-Craft did a fairly nice representation of an SD45 in the CSX "hockey stick" livery, #8926. http://www.aristocraft.com/catalog/loco ... %20csx.jpg :( Its a shame none of them were painted like that, or even into the "Dark Future" livery.
