Is engine 502 still in Maine? I was looking at many pictures of it, including when it was numbered 42. When was this unit put out of service and why? They restored to its original number and look in 89 – 90 but I saw pictures with captions stating that it was out of service just a few years later.

Might want to direct the question to the Montreal Maine & Atlantic Forum.

MMA still owns it. Try the MMA forum for more info. There's bound to be a thread or two on that subject.

I believe it was removed from service during the period of financial difficulties, some of its equipment was then borrowed for other locomotives. It is presently outside in the dead line at Derby Shop. It still looks quite nice but is inoperable.
