As my Camden Line train was approaching its platform at Union Station this afternoon I saw 3 NJT Comet Vs attached to some Amfleet cars at the low platforms on the lower level of Union Station (which VRE, all Amtrak trains to/from FL, NC, LA, VA etc. and some rush-hour Regionals use) . I was really suprised to see them and I whipped out my cell phone and took a couple pics. I wonder if Amtrak was borrowing them for Regional service use, or since MARC will place a order for new rail cars this year they maybe wanted to examine the Comet Vs (although I doubt they will purchase single level cars). Its the first time I've seen Comet Vs up close, and I'm impressed. I uploaded the pics to flickr:

I posted a similar thread at the NJT forum and got two replies that it was a special NJT Chamber of Commerce train from Newark to DC. Kind of dissapointing that it wasn't MARC evaluating them or something, but it is always nice to get to see equipment from other passenger rail operations services pass through D.C., especially from other NEC services.
