Most people don't know this, but at one time the Tamaqua passenger station was actually in the middle of a wye. There was a track that went right thru town and to New Philadelphia and onward. The track as far as New Phili is still in, but from New Phili to Tamaqua is out.

I was told that the RDG sold this track to the state, who intented to widen Rt 209. The road was never widened, but the track was sold anyway.

Can anyone confirm or give me a brief history of the line. I'm told the R&N is parking storage cars at the current end of track in New Phili.

Yes this line was known as the Schuylkill Valley branch, and was the passenger line cut off to Tamaqua from Pottsville.
The other leg of the wye came in at the lower side of the Railroad Tamaqua office building.
