Ah yes the H-10 2100-2300.On out of cross level track a rough rider.
On 50 mph track a nice ride.
Most of the H-10 with duplex stokers had been converted to Hanna stokers by 1950 and retired by early 1953.69-72 mph was as fast as I ever rode on an H-10 and that was with the throttle to the roof andthe reverse hooked up as close to center as possible. From 60 on,
with the Hanna stoker, you closed the jet on the stoker and rolled
the coal in and let the shaking
and vibration shake the coal ahead
in the fire box.If you used any jet pressure you would plug the throat sheet at the end of the arch brick.
All in all they were good engines
and did their job well from 10 mph
to 50 mph which was what they were designed for. LEW
