I found this interesting tidbit about the 45th Street entrance to the Helmsley building:
"In removing the name ''Helmsley Building'' from the entrance at 75 East 45th Street, Mr. Kalikow uncovered a bronze sign saying, ''New York 75 General 75 Building.'' He had a C and T fashioned to change it back to ''Central.'' He ornamented a new bronze and marble lobby desk with medallions based on a sinuous NYC ligature found in the canopies over the elevator bays. He installed new air-conditioner grilles copied from the original radiator grilles. He saw to it that the new revolving doors had hand bars patterned exactly on those in the existing doors, down to the word ''PVSH.''
