Does MetroCard work on LIRR?

I forgot which line I was on.. I want to say it was the N but maybe thats not right but it has connections to the LIRR.. My question is does the Metro card work on the LIRR or do I need to buy another ticket just for that?

According to the MTA web site, the MetroCard is only good on the Subway and the Bus.

However, you can buy a combination monthly LIRR ticket and MetroCard. You can also use your MetroCard to ride PATH if it is a pay-per-ride MetroCard.
