I am looking for information on cars the MTA is offering for reefing (Artificial Reefs). Is there a site that has construction specifications? I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

What model of cars are being retired? I heard there were 600 cars.

there are a total of 1600 cars available for reefing. NJ has been offered 600. Answer fron NJDEP still pending. I was hoping someone here would know what models and any source of construction information as to asbestos ect.

In this order:

200 R-38
400 R-42
400 R-40
300 R-44 (all from the subway)
Unclear whether R-32 or R-46 will go next

Latest Update:

A bean counter at the MTA has determined that cars must be retired on a basis of age (depreciation), not soundness or reliability. Thus the 600 R-32s move to the front of the list. (Of course what happens in actuality is anybody's guess)
