The weather was alright this morning for a small outing on the Riverline in Ridgefield Park. I hope yall like the photos as i wasnt really on my "game" and didnt get that great of photos.

The morning at Ridgefield Park started off a bit dull. As we waited about an hour before the first train. It happened to be K277 which rumbled by at about 8:37 am.

Soon after the K277 the Q164 was moved south and passed us at 8:50 am with a Conrail Quality unit on the point. Boy it was nice to see a Conrail unit lead.

About an hour after the Q164's passage Q108 came through on its way to the Little Ferry yard around 9:53 am. The C40-8W on the point looked nice and clean as the sun came out and shined on it.

Soon after the Q110 came south with its train for North Bergen. Q108 and Q110 are always dependable as CSX always seems to run them as a pair down the Riverline.

It was a pretty good morning and pretty soon im hoping to get out to some spots further north on the Riverline.

I really like this digital camera. And i have been improving my skills and am practicing night photography when i can. In case you are interested i have a Sony DSC P8. Its small but puts out good pictures and some good video too.

I have a Finepix camera. It suits me well for now. Except, all shots must be done at point blank range (no zoom) and my night photos come out HORRIBLY. And also, the flash MUST be on, otherwise the picture is distorted (yes, in daytime.) But, it isn't a bad camera.... but I am nonetheless thinking of getting a new camera. What is the optical zoom on your camera? (digital zoom is useles) How many megagpixels? Are the night shots good? I'm hoping to get a good one without shelling out the big dollars. :)

The DSC P8 is 3.1 MegaPixles and has a 3x Optical Zoom. I think the night shots come out very well. I dont use a tripod so the images come out a big shaky. Ill list what i used as a temporary tripod for each one :D

The edge of the bed on my fathers truck for both of these shots.

This was done using the roof of my mothers car and i got incredibly lucky with the BNSF symbol being perfectly placed in the image.

This was done free hand from the same crossing as the photo above.

These are my first attempts at night shots. I think they are pretty cool and came out pretty well considering that i dont really have a tripod yet.

Which Fuji FinePix do you have?

I have the S7000 (19x Combined Zoom - 6x Optical, 3.2x Digital, 12MP, Video w/ Sound). Its awesome with railroading, day or night, especially at night!

Let me find some recent pictures from the riverline with my camera.

^I have the A200 Finepix. I bought it with my Gateway Computer a year ago. It says 2.0 megapixels but I think it goes up to 2.4. You're making me jealous that you have a camera that takes good night shots! Considering I am working with stone knives and bear skins, I think my shots come out pretty well.

I'd love to have your camera Mike. And one day real soon, I may just get it... well not your camera but one like it. :) And man, do I need an optical zoom!

EDIT: I am now seriously debating buying your camera Sullivan. I'm looking at Amazon right now. To buy or not to buy. That is the question...

The one thing I like about my A200 is that it fits in my pocket so I can be quite inconspicuous. If I buy the S7000, those days will be gone. I'll be living railfanning on the wild side.... :D

^You may be right, I may just get it. It really takes great night shots (and you have a good artistic eye.) But, before I do, I have to make sure my term bill payments for Rutgers all goes in OK. But as soon as it all checks out, it's go time.

Thanks Mike!

Well fear not, This camera is worth about 800 on Fujis website, but you can find it new on ebay (like i did) for about $500 with nearly $1000 in free equiptment that comes in a package. Thats how I got mine. It was the best deal I think I have ever taken advantage of.

The P8 that i got in total costed 373 dollars. That was with a case to carry it in and a 128 mb memory stick. If i remember right the camera alone was 220 dollars without taxes but the last time i saw it it was only 199.
