I live near the CSX Philly sub around Ridley Park and my grandparents own a house in Prospect Park right near 17th ave. where the tracks run through to Glenolden. Does anyone have photos of the Philly Sub or live anywhere near the Philly Sub?

I do. I live in DE near the city of Newark and the Philadelphia sub runs right through the city.Sometimes I do railfan on the Philly.

Nice pictures. I plan to become an engineer for CSX as soon as I graduate from high school. I think it would be a great career.

I have made a few trips to the CSX Philly Sub and have gone to Holmes (even though my page says Glenolden). Just have to watch your step there as not all of the dog owners cleanup after their dogs. What's nice to is riding Septa and then walking the half-mile down to the CSX line.

17th ave. Holmes is where i watch those trains with my scanner! :-D My grandmother owns a house on right near there. Great spot to watch the trains and looking down the main at Holmes signal, it seems new. And i see where the other track use to be and the siding that was removed. There even was a station at the very spot. Amazing that iam only 18 and watch trains, how nerdy is that?! Excellent Pictures!!!

Thank you for the compliment. It is a line that I've enjoyed going to, but it does get very quiet at times.

i was told that between the hours of 7:00-8:00 a.m. there is alot of action on the line. I hear the horns constantly. Maybe i will take a walk over to the spot to watch those trains with my scanner. i also have schedules for the division that will help.

Generally the early morning hours are best. Now that the sun is coming up before 7AM it's probably best if you get trackside earlier. Yesterday morning, Saturday 4/28, I was home listening to the scanner and watching train movements on ATCS. Here's a list of the trains I heard before 9AM:

Q406 was in Philadelphia around 7AM
Q216 met Q409 at Chester around 730
Q409 met D729 at W. Feltonville at Q438 at Elsmere
Q438 met Q741, Q173, and D732 at Chester
Also thrown in that mix was Q370 working Belvidere and Q703 getting ready to come out of Philly. There was also an unidentified eastbound, presumably Q172.
