I'm told that MOUNTAIN VIEW will travel from Charlotte to New York on Amtrak train 80, The Carolinina, on Friday October 13, 2006. It will be rearmost, properly pointed.

D. F. Barnhardt's website shows it as sold.

I've heard 2 rumors:

a. It will be donated to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. If that is true, then this may be a final opportunity to see it out running on the mainline.

b. It was purchased by a well known PRR enthusiast. If that is true, then the future should be brighter!

If only I had the money....

You know, I'm surprised Bennett Levin hasn't picked this car up yet. It would look great with the E-8's.

I thought of that too until I remembered what he does put on the end of his trains.

True, that 120 is a sharp car. I saw some photos awhile back of another car he was working on. PC Business Car 90..I don't remember its PRR name though.

Bennett seems to be doing quite well without Mountan View.

Mountain View was in the coach yard in Philly on Sunday, two tracks away from Bennett's train (plus Kitchie Gammi Club).

Isn't Mr. Bennett's equipment stored in Philly also? I heard he keeps his stuff in the old LCL building.

Hi All,

I have spoken many a time with Dean McCormack, owner of the Scottish Thistle, a heavyweight Observation Car, with the open air tail. Really nice car, with all the amenities for a fine way to travel.

Dean was also, at one time, President of the Private RailCar Owners Association. As such he has told me that to own and operate such a railcar is actually more expensive than running your own boat, or yacht. It must meet all the requirements that are needed for FRA certification, or it will not ride the rails. It requires an engine to move it around and it usually is tied to another train to go where you would like to go. It requires a staff, including Kitchen and serving personnel etc. etc. A rather expensive hobby. So, the outlay of cash to buy it is really only the downpayment. Check out the videotape by Pentrex, "Mansions on Wheels". Dean is in it.

MOUNTAIN VIEW arrived at her new home, the Railroaders Memorial Museum in Altoona PA, this morning.

[Information courtesy of the Juniata Terminal Company.]

Mountain View had been stored indoors at Juniata Terminal for three weeks.

Since Juniata Terminal's SW1500 is being used for ballast work on the NJT River LINE, E8 5809 was used as the yard switcher to position Mountain View.

CSAO train FJ3 was working next door, so ex-Reading SW1001 2106 came over to position Mountain View and the coupled boxcar on a track suitable for heavy six-axle locomotives to pick them up for the move to Altoona.
