Sometime in the mid-80's Conrail rebuilt a GP35 to GP38-2 specifications. The program was too expensive and was cancelled, but the unit soldiered on into the 90's. Whatever happened to this unit?
The unit in question was CR2363 (ex PCC/PRR). Rebuilt in November 1984 as CR7635. Was in service until June of 1997, retired and sold to Quebec Gatineau RR as their #2006.
AFAIK it is still in service....
