This picture was made yesterday (06/16/04) as Leatherstocking Railway Histrorical Society volunteers dumped another load of dirt and stone at a culvert project just north of Milford NY. The Locomotive is C&CV MLW S4 #3051 and the side dump car is an ex D&H M.O.W car now owned and operated by the C&CV. The dedicated volunteers of the LRHS made this photo possible... As late as 1997 this line was completely overgrown with weeds and trees. At some points on the line, a person had to crawl on his hands and knees to get through the brush!

Does anybody know what the status is and what kind of shape this line is
in between Milford and Cooperstown Junction?
Rode the entire line a number of times years ago.

The line is passable south of milford... We run down to the junction a few times a year to do some switching or pick up rolling stock from the D&H interchange.

Is there any intention to eventually be able to run the excursion all the way to the interchange?

There is plans for trains to go all the way down to the junction but at the moment we have very limited funds and volunteers. Our main priority at this point is to keep the northern end in operation as best we can.
Anyody interested in volunteering can contact us through www.lrhs.com.
we need brakemen, conductors, engineers, mechanics, office workers, track workers, etc...

I would just like to second the lrhs webmasters call for volunteers, (as in, support your local train group!). I volunteer with a Railroad in State College, PA area the Bellefonte Railroad Historical Society and people willing to volunteer make a huge difference to our success or failure. If you enjoy trains, regardless of whether it be the history, rolling stock, engines, etc., try and give some time to a local Train or Railroad Historical Group if you can. If you can't give time, send 'em a check. Your financial support and time is appreciated and worthwhile to preserving and promoting our collective interests in railroads.

Brooks

PS we too are always in need of flagman, Trainman, Conductors, Engineers, Brakeman, Ticket Agents, etc. but were in PA, so find someone in NYS if that's where you live
