This photographer claims to have shot this SD50S in 2OO6. I thought all the SD50S's were retired by 2OO4.

The trailing locomotive, CEFX 2793 did not have faded CEFX markings above the number boards in 2OO3. That was around the time Norfolk Southern 6504 was retired.

was NS using frame stripes in 2004 ?

The 6504 is the only one left on the roster. The reflective frame striping was just done recently to comply with the new FRA regulations. The only other SD50S left on roster, 6502, was retired July 14th, 2005 leaving the 6504 alone.

I know the 6504 is still roaming around on the NS system. The 6502 was retired, reactivated, retired in 2005, and was recently spotted running again in 2006. I saw it in NJ back in March or April and the last time I saw the 6504 in NJ was in February.

Being since I'm clueless about motive power and rolling stock, I shot a picture on the Wilkes-Barre Connecting RR Sunday, and one of the locos was numbered 2538 which looks similar to 6504. What kind of loco is 2538?

Thanks, John

2538 is an SD70; here's SD70 2547:

Thanks Bob. Like I said, I'm clueless when it comes to rolling stock and power.
