Lest anyone wonder why 1950 ordered CB&Q 700 series bi-levels "look like stainless steel outhouses', this incident surely was still "all too fresh' for Q executives.

Although rebuilt many times over, they remain in revenue service to this day.

With few exceptions, railroad management throughout history have rarely thought "outside the box" when it comes to new and innovative ideas to either market a new product or upgrade their current product. Yet both were accomplished four years later when the new bilevels were delivered for commuter service. As a catalyst for change, this horrible accident was indeed one of those exceptions...

Did anyone else look at all the pictures they have in the article? If you look at them, the lead E5 of what I would assume to be the train that crashed into the stopped train, doesn't appear to have much damage, aside from being off the tracks.

Edit: I just realized, this is the 60th anniversary of the Naperville wreck, and also the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster in the former USSR. Kinda creepy.

From reviewing material posted at another site, I have learned of this collection that includes nine color photos of the Naperville incident.

The nine photos are located @ P03241 to P03249, inclusive.
