I see Gershow Recycling mentioned often here on the NYA Forum. I know they are located between Peconic Ave. and the Main Line in Medford, but don't they have another facility, perhaps on the Bay Ridge Branch in Brooklyn? What is the configuration of their spurs, and how often are they served by NYA?

The Brooklyn Gershow site is near Pitkin Avenue in the East New York section (formerly known as "The Killing Fields" due to drug-related violence of the '80s). The area has been cleaned up somewhat, so it's pretty harmless during daylight hours.

The scapmetal joint has only been in Gershow's hands for four or five years. Prior to then it was the Lieberman-Koren Scrap Metal empire, a family-owned enterprise that probably was at that location going back to the 30's or 40's as the facility is listed on the old hand-drawn map of the Bay Ridge branch by Bob Emery.

There is one long siding that is adjacent to the ROW on the westside. There is (or was) a conveyor-belt system that enabled quick loading of gondolas. A magnet-equpped crane can also be used to load the cars.
