Does anyone have information as to the future of the G&W owned D&MM line? This branchline (the former DL&W maninline) was given an upgrade not to long ago with state or federal money, but then Foster-Wheeler closed their Dansville plant. This was the only business on the entire line. Yet the rail is still in place rusting away! Information anyone?

Most likely this line will be removed... after 1985, the DMM was more or less a very long siding to serve a single customer!

After the state put in all that money to rehab the line back in the 80's - I'm sure they'll want the Livingston County IDA to take title to it. I wouldn't write it off just yet.

Given that removal of the D&MM trackage from Mount Morris-Groveland-Dansville is a 100%-certainty, efforts should be started to encourage
adaptive re-use of the line between Mount Morris and Wayland,
over fabled Dansville Hill, as a RAIL TRAIL. The Town of North
Dansville shot this down 5-0 about 7 years ago, and no one has
tried since...despite a lot of supporters in Dansville. Routing follows
the former DL&W main line all the way from Mount Morris to Wayland,
where the old passenger station still stands adjoining the Gunlocke
Chair factory. The D&MM itself abandoned ito own line from Mount
Morris to Groveland awhile ago, and its own line between there and
Dansville (at the bottom of the hill; rather than cut way-up along the
ridge south of town) is relatively unscenic and not worth a large
preservation effort. Best target is the "GENESEE VALLEY GREENWAY",
which is already rehabbing the entire ex-PRR Rochester-Cuba branch
into one of the longest rail trails in the NE USA.
