VRELackie, thanks for posting the little chart. Two questions:

1) You list V425 as being ex-Metra 7633, but the VRE website lists it as the former 7663, and the Metra roster at the link below indicates there never was a 7633. Is 7633 a typo?

2) You list V436 (ex-Metra 7754) as being built in 1965, but the Metra roster I found shows cars 7700-7801 as being built in 1960-61. Could this be a typo also?

A Metra roster is available at http://hometown.aol.com/metrafan/rosmetra.html. The cars now with VRE are in the flat side/painted section.

Are V439 (8719) and V440 (8718) being used as Cabs?

It's awesome to see a Railroad Passanger Service place their rosters on their websites! For fans, it's awesome to see all the units they are using!
I hope more Commuter Rail services do this do, though I guess it's easier for VRE cuz it's a small Commuter Rail, but great job, nontheless!

VRE currently has no operating gallery cab cars. They do have 5 ex metra cabs that are used as "ready reserve" (read parts cars) 8730-8731-8739-8740-8742

Thanks for the list. However, I don't know which cars on which train.

because of VRE's small fleet and rotating shop schedule consists change from day to day so to keep you all "in the know" about the consist makeup in terms of car number i'd have to post a list twice a day every day

if you look at VRE's website you can find a consist list by car TYPE, but the cars themselves change so often its a rather pointless endeavor to track them by train number.

the only consistant consist (pardont the pun) are the sounder, kawasaki, and kawasaki cab consists, because of the unique trainline configurations on these types of cars, and not wanting to tear up the rubber diaphragms on the bi-levels with the metal traditional diaphragms on the gallery cars

oh and also a new tidbit

there are two more galleries that VRE purchased to use as cab cars, but in the meantime it has been decided to use these as trailers only with the new car order underway

ex metra 8756 and 8754 were supposed to be V950 and V951 respectively

but i do believe that these are the two cars up in Yonkers NY at the KRC refit location being converted for trailer only operation,

this would mean that these would be renumbered to be V459 and V460 respectively

What about cars V441-V465? Did VRE keep 1 of the Gallery I cars out of service for parts?

  by VRELackie

V414 just doesnt exist ...???

i still have the Number plate decals for the "ghost car" sitting in the warehouse meaning they were never applied

i think it is one of the ones they were going to turn into diner cars that are now just sitting at strausberg, VA

cars 441-458 are classified as YONKERS cars, they are currently undergoing refit and we have a number of them back ... once they have all been assigned VRE numbers i'll post them too ...

metra numbers are

V441 7825
V442 7836
V443 7837
V444 7838
V445 7839
V446 7840
V447 7841
V448 7842
V449 7843
V450 7844
V451 7845
V452 7846
V453 7847
V454 7850
V455 7851
V456 7852
V457 7854
V458 7856

that is the tennative numbering scheme for now

most have been assigned some have not... they get their "V-numbers as soon as they are approved for revenue service...

if you go to Yonkers you can see them in their metra orange and blue paintjobs with the VRE diamonds and numberplates on them if you're lucky
