I was stuck on 3503 (3:23 out of NYP) yesterday. We pulled out of Secaucus, and stopped. The crew announced several times over the span of about an hour that they were having trouble locking Portal bridge closed. At about 4:40, they backed the the train into Secaucus, where I went to get a train to Hoboken, from whence I was planning to get the PATH to Newark Penn to get a bus home.
While I was waiting for it to arrive, it was announced over the PA that service would be resuming in about 10 to 15 minutes, and of course the enormous crowds on the lower level platforms went roaring back up the stairs.
I still went off to Hoboken, got the 5:13 Bay Head express to Newark Penn (which was a scene of total mayhem at 5:30, and the trains were most certainly NOT on time), took the new Broad St. Branch of the Newark Light Rail off to Washington Park and to my bus home, at 6:40. Three hours and 17 minutes, not too shabby...
It's not every day that I get to take a NY Subway, three trains, one light rail, and one bus to get home! I had a good time, but then again, I'm insane
