121 was into Greenville Jct. at 09:24 with 8575/2279(DiT), 35 mixed freight, 8140 (DPU), 28 mixed freight. No intermodal today. The 2279, like the 2262 yesterday, is finally departing Maine after their derailment in Orneville last fall.

Next ship is the CMA CGM Surabaya, which is already into the Bay of Fundy, it is scheduled to dock after the MSC Don Giovanni that is travelling behind it in the bay.

Here are the two vessels Mr. NHV notes are calling at Saint John:

m/v Surabaya

m/v Don Giovanni

Now what will be of great interest is how many containers each will offload AND by what mode will they be forwarded?

Will the CN with their circuitous routing get some, will CP-M?

And the big question. How many by highway?

And of those forwarded by highway (oh doesn't Maine have some great ones?), how many, after Chessie drops some Fancy Feast to have the MEC at least a Class 2 road, find their way on to her rails?

Finally, once Chessie has a viable road, will more vessels choose to call at Saint John resulting in more traffic for everybody?

The MSC ships have been calling for about 10 years... the CMA for 5. CP (preKCS) got the CMA contract last year, and MSC hits Montreal on the same call before, so no MSC via rail to SJ.

So far growth has been Hapag, everything else has been existing or shifting from one RR to another. CN is done with SJ, they have Halifax and their marketing dept is keenly aware of this. CSX will get in after they spend a good bit of time rebuilding Pan Am.

Interestingly enough, CN has been promoting Port Saint John recently within the trade press.
